Changes to the focus of my topic

I last posted that I was going to focus my research on the experiences of my mother and her breast cancer. However, I will not be able to do this.

Last December my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer (malignant). She was told that she was going to have to go through chemotherapy and radiation. This would all be done in the time of 6-7 months. My mother went into surgery to have the cancer removed last Thursday. And with much prayer from many people and all thanks to God, she came out of surgery cancer-free.

So, I have decided to continue my research on breast cancer, but I have shifted my focus to the types of treatment any patient goes through after being diagnosed. It is still very important to me that I continue researching breast cancer because it is now in the line of my family history, and there are chances that it may hit close to home again.

Narrowing down the topic

In response to suggestions on my topic, I understand that there is a lot of information in regards to breast cancer- the diagnoses, treatment, side affects, outcome/results, supporting foundations, etc. So in consideration of suggestions, as well as to help myself, I was hoping to narrow down my topic by making my research a case study, focusing on my mother. But, in addition to my case study, I would also like to include additional information acquired from the field research methods that I have chosen to do conduct.

KEYWORDS/ RELATED TERMS

As I have mentioned before, I did not know anything about breast cancer. I didn't know there were so many other names or references or even related terms to the cancer. So the process that I went through to generate keywords was more of a searching the web type of thing. I visited many websites and these are the keywords/related terms that I gathered:
TUMOR
MALIGNANT, MALIGNANCY
ABNORMAL/UNCONTROLLED CELL DIVISION
EPITHELIAL TISSUE
CARCINOMA-DUCTAL; CARCINOMA-LOBULAR
LUMPECTOMY, MASTECTOMY, LYMPH NODE DISSECTION

SELECTED TOPIC

The topic I chose to research and write about this semester is breast cancer. I chose this topic because my mother, unfortunately, was diagnosed with breast cancer in mid-December of last year. There is no history of breast cancer in our family, so researching and writing about it will definitely help me, as well as my family, learn and understand what the cancer is and what type of treatments are available, as well as the effects and outcome/results.

My knowledge of breast cancer is almost none. All that I know is that it is a cancer found in the breast and can be treated. With no history of cancer in my family, I have overlooked or failed to recognize this topic completely, until now.

In reasearching and writing about this topic, I am expecting to learn exactly what breast cancer is. I would also like to learn about the treatments that are offered or given after the diagnosis and the effect it/they have physically, emotionally, and/or mentally. Lastly, I would like to know the ending results of many treated victims. As mentioned before, I have very little (if any) knowledge about the topic I chose, so my hopes are high in gaining a lot of knowledge.

POSSIBLE RESEARCH TOPICS

Breast Cancer: diagnosis, treatment, outcome/results.
